If you know anything about me, you know food and travel are my two main loves in life. When I’m traveling to a new destination, you can expect half of my research will revolve around food. The Camden Market in London just so happened to be everything I hoped and dreamed for in a food lovers paradise.
When I’m home in the states, my favorite thing to do on the weekend is visit our local farmers market or find some food truck hangout spots. These usually have the best food for a great price. When I was in London, I knew I had to visit one of the many famed street markets that are so popular there. With limited time and a wide range of markets from which to choose, it was a daunting task to pick the one to go to.
My twin friends Katie and Chloe, who had been to London several times before, took my sister and I to their favorite spot. On our first morning, we decided to start our day at Camden Market. The entrance seemed like a small little warehouse, but as soon as you got deeper into the stands you could see how big it really was. There were several different rooms that had a lot of different specialty items. Handcrafted jewelry and custom paintings were the most popular items, but there were a range of products like handmade soaps, leather products, and stained glass lanterns.
Once we made our way to the outside patio, is when I truly fell in love with that place. The entire outside area was dedicated to food vendors selling every kind of cuisine imaginable. Walking from station to station it felt like you were taking a trip around the world. It was a melting pot of every countries signature dish. Korean pork buns, Turkish feta wraps, Brazilian dulce de leche filled churros, Italian stone oven pizza, and of course the classic Fish and Chips. They seriously had it all. I had just stepped into heaven and didn’t even know what hit me.
We drifted from stand to stand, sampling our way through out the entire market. I think I could have happily eaten every meal the entire weekend from that market, to be completely honest. There was a cornucopia of foreign treats to try and I was determined to doing just that. After we literally could not take another bite of food, we decided it would be best to stop right there.
But don’t you worry, we ended up going back the very next day because one time just wasn’t enough. Through the course of two days we sampled, the best mac n’ cheese, falafels, Mexican burritos, cake truffles, Turkish wraps, chocolate covered strawberries, and shamefully so much more.
Camden Market is a wonderful place. Now every time I think of London I will be reminiscing about all the incredible food and beautiful handcrafted trinkets I saw in the Camden Market. My biggest regret about visiting London is only giving myself two full days. This city needs so much more time than that. I know I will return to London some day to give the city the time it really deserves.
I know Camden Market is just one out of many incredible spots to see in London, and yes, there might even be a better market to visit. But for me, this place offered everything I am looking for in a solid street fair.
Here are some pictures I took while wondering through the Camden Market!
